Hustler in the Spirit

Amateur sparrow
basting in the breeze
cackling and coercing
doom into wings.
Essence tremolo
Fruits of calligraphy,
gastronomy of light
hanging low.
Imagine his marrow
jousting from the sieve
kingfishers cannot pronounce;
lore of none and lords of everything.
Maybe will storm, mayhaps will follow
Nimbus like poison, like litany,
obituary of flights,
pornography on the prow;
question the other sparrows,
relinquish their misdeeds,
seeping and romancing,
translucent like a marigold
under the burn of a love;
verily, meet me eye to eye,
whistle of bright ages in
xylography of forsaken sages
yield as though I do, before
zeal of morning stars.

*For NaPoWriMo day 19, an abecedarian poem.

  1. I wasn’t going to try this prompt, but after reading yours I might chanfe my mind… I like what you did with it!

    • Oh no, please do try! Would love to see what you do with it!

      • i have a rather busy day today, so I’m not sure I have mind space for it. But I’ll see if I can find a starting point for it. If I have something I want to write about, that would make it easier to at least try.

      • I think everytime I try these alphabet poems, I suffer from the opposite Alice in Wonderland effect: I have no idea where I am going, I get to know the road later (as opposed to knowing where I want to go!)

      • Maybe that’s what I like about yours: I felt a sense of curiosity when I read it. Did you start with the beautiful illustration, or did that come later?

      • Definitely later. If I have to retrace this to give it some form of personal meaning, it would be the fact that a lot of prompts for this years NaPo seem to make us reach into our grief, which I do not like to do, or more so avoid it, but I do do it just a tad bit late. My grandfather, who died 2 years ago, called me Sparrow my entire life. When I asked him why, he said I never have any piece, I am often mischievous and I buzz around 200 kph, but I am also clever and playful. I was thinking about it and concluded to myself that I must be a very amateur sparrow, hence how the poem came to be and the artwork to compliment it got picked 🙂

      • Your grandfather sounds like a wonderful man, what a beautiful description of what he saw in you!

  2. A mighty good poem — this action filled space, with its particular vocabulary adding into its depth, is so interesting. This bit amazed me in particular:
    “Nimbus like poison, like litany,
    obituary of flights,
    pornography on the prow;
    question the other sparrows,
    relinquish their misdeeds…”

  3. Beautiful and effortless.

The Inner Wilderness

Plato had amazing insight into the question of finding the unknown. "How will you go about finding that thing the nature of which is totally unknown to you?" he wondered. The deep inner space within yourself, the inner wilderness within you asks for you to explore it, and in the process discover yourself. What better way to do that than through writing? This space is a personal blog for your reading, and my writing adventure. Go through the blog that follows to, perhaps, discover something as well.
