Around my World in a Tea Daze #3

It feels like only mere three-four teas ago, September was merely an announcement and now? Well, now it is already packing to go and September, dear friend, you know I love you, but can’t you stay a while longer? I am not ready for October.

While we are sitting here and hopefully drinking our warm beverages, I would like to proclaim that I am a lot more crazier then you all might think. Here I am, sitting and contemplating, dreaming and getting jazzy about new ideas, projects and plans that I am going to fit into my already progressing plans and projects. So I have a few questions for you dear readers, and your feedback would mean a lot to me:

What do you look for in a magazine? What is it that makes you consider submitting? What is it that makes you read it and what is it that makes you keep it and read it again later? What about poetry contests? Do you feel like all the outlets for our Art are letting us be free? Are they helping us improve, while maintaining the skeleton confine of our soul intact and just in the color we wanted?

Aside from being crazy, I am “working”. “” because as you all know, I am unemployed with a very slim chance that is going to change anytime soon. But yes, I am working! I am working at the most awesome, spiritualy rewarding job ever. This, is my boss:

He reads all of your blogs with me, but I simply must give praise here to his favourite WordPress poet. Yes, it is Cubby! She is wonderfull and makes my heart warm, especially because she gives me poetic moments that I can also enjoy with my family. The soul and deep honesty she puts in each post she makes is something that has became like a sunshine to my mornings. She recently started hosting poetry form challenges also, which I am sure you would enjoy.

Here is Sir Seth’s favourite poem from her: Swirling Mad

Another poet and an outstanding, heartwarming lady, one of the first I followed here, is B. G. Bowers.  I just noticed her tagline says “Writer In Progress”, but people, she is already beyond a fabulous writer! Her fearless mastery of adventureous forms will easily leave you envious. Just look at this Sestina!

I have recently embarked upon a poet whose words quickly got me hooked to reading everything he writes. If you are wanting to feel the same, check Esoteric Poet. I guarantee you will not regret it!

Other things I am working on are artworks for “Cyanide & Cherries” project. Working like that really pulls me in and hours can pass before I regain my sanity. Here is an example:

My husband has been nagging me for a long time I should connect my blog with my DeviantArt profile, so you will in future be able to find a link to it on the right side. I share mostly photography there as well as textures that I make for people to use free.

Hope you enjoyed this little tour of my cup! Tell me, what are you doing, what are you reading? There is plenty of tea to go around (AND coffee, don’t worry coffee lovers, I did not forget you!)

  1. I don’t enter magazines or poetry contests very often, so I don’t really have an answer. I guess if I feel like I can submit something worthwhile under the guidelines. That doesn’t happen as often as one would think.

What am I doing? Waking up, clearing the remaining flu aches, and hoping to finally get some book editing done. Been too long.

    1. That is what I was wondering. What is the thing that, even tho you never submit or rarely do, that makes you go YES! and you jsut feel like right at home? I am browsing and browsing places to submit, but none of them feels just right. Many of them ask registrations to their programs or this or that, I dont even know what they are and to be honest that feels a little bit tyring – that I need to think about yet another password and username and how to amke those bla bla. It feels a little bit like a goverment building – or voting: you slip a paper with something writen on it that holds a great deal of future for you, but that’s it.

      1. Really it’s if an idea clicks within 5 minutes of reading about the contest. If that doesn’t happen then I tend to wander back to my novels. The registration is a big turn off for me because I feel like I’m signing up for something I don’t want in the long-term.

      2. Yes, I also feel like that and I also feel like they are going to register me automaticaly as something they don’t even wanna take a glance at, if my submission gets declined, like they will judge my whole writing only by that single first attempt to submit for them and will jsut not even pay attention to me if I try to submit more – I see it like a slightly sneaky filter and it jsut makes me feel very uncomfortable.

    2. I am glad to hear btw the flu is lossening his grip on you! And hurray for editing, I hope it proves theuraputic for you at this recovery time.

  2. The only thing I ever read in magazines are the cartoons.

    1. You have amazing drawings. What would be the conditions or sentiments under which you would perhaps be inspired to submit them somewhere, in a magazine or in a gallery or in a contest?
What about your poetry? would there be a difference between the two, like, maybe you would submit a drawing in this case, but poetry not , and vice verca.

      1. I honestly don’t think anybody would want my rubbish cluttering their magazines. I’m quite happy enough wandering quietly round the back streets of the Internet.

      2. Now, this is where that internet chat sentence comes to full need, the *Slaps you around with a large trout* cause it is what I would do to you for talking like this about your precious poetry! 😀

      3. There’s something very kinky sounding about being slapped around with a large trout…

      4. Not if you are like me and you really REALLY can’t stand fish 😀

  3. I like your “boss”! 🙂 That’s the best kind of boss to have. He only cares about “the numbers” when he’s counting to three (over and over again), and a “productive day” is all about how much fun was had… 😉 I envy your job! My “little bosses” are in their 20s now, and I really miss those days. Trust me, they go by as quickly as this September has, so hang on to them tightly and enjoy. 🙂 Jobs (and the less amusing “bosses”) come and go, but I know that this little guy loves having you around right now, while he can. 🙂 You’re in the best place! 🙂 ~ B

    1. Oh,tell me about it! He is growing so so soooo fast! There is allready too many shoes in the shoe closet he outgrew. Everything he does feels as the most rewarding thing in the world, no salary or position can even come close to when he is tired and he hugs me to sleep on my shoulder.

  4. You are the queen of multitasking and you’re doing the most important job in the world. I’m excited for you and wishing you all the luck!!!!

    1. Indeed, I feel the best when I am so busy I barely have a moment to catch my breath, but that can get a bit annoying to others I guess, especially when they think rest is the main purpose in life 😀

      1. Well, rest is definitely needed and not everybody can multitask effectively, so sometimes people end up doing x things and none of them right or correctly, which is definitely not good. But I see that’s not the case for you, and I admire you for this!

      2. Heh, I rest by doing something less demanding 🙂
What are you up to friend, what is new with you, what are you reading, what are you watching ?:D

  5. Well, you just melted my heart completely into a sticky puddle. To show my appreciation, I have written something for Sir Seth that is scheduled for tomorrow that I hope he’ll enjoy. As for magazines and poetry contests, I have no idea what they are looking for as I do not read or enter them. Your artwork is incredible, and I think linking your blog with your DeviantArt profile is a fantastic idea. 🙂

    1. We are both melted, which is amazing. I cannot imagine anymore how people who never read poetry feel 🙂 Sir Seth will be extatic, I mean, look at him, he has Attention King and I like It writen on his forhead 😀 He does not enjoy much things, nor has the attention span to stop and listen to what I am saying, so it warms my heart to see him swirling and twirling with your poem, hoping at end and just taking a moment to stop and smile.
You should most definitely submit something somewhere! It hurts me that most magazines are so unappealing that amazing poets don’t even want to look at them, don’t feel safe submitting nor the magazines feel welcoming.
I do not usualy share my dA, because it feels like I don’t have anything masterfull to offer from there, but I am getting more free with it 🙂

      1. Your boy is just the sweetest little thing. As you say, magazines unfortunately do not make themselves accessible, I suspect on purpose, to many talented poets. You are too modest about your own talents, but I understand how it is when you set the bar high for yourself and are always pushing yourself to do better. 🙂

  6. I have never entered a magazine poetry contest I was published in an online poetry magazine which I hadn’t submitted to and that was a wonderful surprise. I guess I would like if the process of submitting was ultra simple and if freestyle poetry was accepted. I know some frown on freestyle as being unprofessional. I like biographies in the past whenever I bought a magazine it was for the unorthodox interviews. Obviously beautiful pictures entice me I don’t mean adverts but art like the beautiful picture you shared. I would love the poetry to have depth and edge, poetry is so much more than pretty words. Cubby and Bianca are incredible =) I will check out your recommendation as well! Your son is adorable!

    1. Thank you very much for your imput! I often feel as tho I am being spoiled and like I have no right to choose when deciding if I am going to submit something to a contest or a magazine or not. I look at it and I say I dont like it, but my husband says Its a magazine, so just submit, try. He says I will never publish anything because I constantly want everything to be perfect and I am being to technical and moral.

  7. What is it that makes us hold on to aspects in our which we need to let go? Is it our need to be in our comfort zone?

These questions came to me as I read your wonderful post.

    Shakti

    1. You msot certanly pose some interesting questions that got me thinking. I believe that sometimes failure and things similar to it, things dark in nature, become so familiar to us that letting of it brings us confusion and pain. I think it is because we refuse to understand that often it is us who need to create our comfort zone, as oposed to let someone else decide it for us or grab one we think is suitable.

  8. Your boss is very handsome 🙂

    1. Thank you very much Linda! I have no idea what will I do when he is a teen!

  9. Thank you so much for the shout out, Oloriel 🙂 You are a gem!
Connecting your art & blog is a great idea. Better yet, write poetry in conjunction with your art. I have starting receiving a monthly writers magazine that has a list of publishers, writing opportunities & competitions. I can give you the details if you’re interested. I’m working my way through the list, slowly. Your boss is gorgeous & your job is very important. I am also a full-time mother (my daughter is 5 & my son is 3). Thanks again 🙂 xoxo

    1. When I come to Australia, our bosses should most definitely meet 😀
I am very often inspried by images, but with my own art, it is often a product of something I have writen and wanted to depict as well.
It is wonderfull that you are considering submitting! What I am wondering is what are you looking for when you are browsing that lsit, what is it that makes you feel at home when reading a magazine or a forum description? I would love to see the list by the way 😀

  10. A very enjoyable post, Oloriel. Thanks for visiting me with your kind words.

    Pamela

    1. Don’t mention it, I really enjoy reading you 🙂

  11. Interesting question you pose, I haven’t submitted anything yet, but I look at contests and magazines linked to institutes of education. I don’t know if that is heading me in the wrong direction. By the way, your boss is a cutie 🙂

    1. Thank you for dropping by Shaini! I find the way you mentioned to be very constraining in a few ways, like forms or regional restrictions, but I must agree that their organisation definitly looks better then some of the online places.

About Me

I don’t mind the sun sometimes,
the images it shows,
I can taste you on my lips
and feel you in my clothes.
Cinnamon and sugary
and softly spoken lies,
you never know just how you look
through other people’s eyes
