A Tale from the Backyard of a Room

My pharisaical snail
extends his neck
from his topsy-turvy home
to complain about the rain,
he sees the seas of crimson
as  evangelicals,
an entertaining book to taste
while sleazing through the days
and he mocks my bastion,
thinking
I am here to wilt while gilding mirrors
into forests burning
in the hue of wrists
struggling to break free
from the rope;
and he swears he never cries,
for humility of his mouth
is the translation of death itself
into something beautiful.

I struggle to whisper to him,
while he sleeps atop my palms
and curdles viciously,
bearing the pain of existence
through the moments when he is gone
somewhere beyond the reach of my idolatry
with the night,
I cheat the Sun to take a breath
and I sprout,
to give him a bed to safely lay on
and sleep and be innocent and be dead to this world
while his hypnagogia begs me mercy.
Tomorrow,
he will spew thorns at me,
naming all tragedy to mere acts
of roses departing to give way to bronze
and the pursuit
to tug the black robes of Death
and ask him :“Gently.”
will be solely
mine.

  1. I like to sleaze through my days. Unfortunately there’s only ever Last of the Summer Wine during the afternoon on telly, so that tends to stop me.

    1. 😀 I think we all would like to do that, but some represent it like it is hard work and mock anothers attempt at something else, like trying to fly for example 🙂

  2. An incredible piece of work my friend!

    1. Thank you very much Belinda, I am very happy that you liked it 🙂

That’s quite a mouthful, darling. Lots of fascinating imagery, though I confess I’m not sure what is pharisaical about a snail.

    1. Thank you! The reason I connected that word to the snail is because the snail I am talking about is being hypocritical: claiming his own suffering matters and is painfull , but wording the suffering of others as something necessery and entertaining 🙂

  4. Oh! Beauty of words at its best here… I loved it. 🙂

    1. Thank you, glad you liked it 😀

  5. I love it and that opening! Brilliant and creative and the way you use language I am so jealous haha You are amazing =)

    1. Thank you, the fact you liked it means a lot to me:D

  6. Lovely! Very enjoyable read!

  7. Wow, what an awesome take on the prompt! I love it all, but this just pinched my soul:
    “…for humility of his mouth
is the translation of death itself
    into something beautiful.”

    1. Thank you, I am very glad you liked it! The prompt was very inspiring!

  8. My pharisaical snaaill! You are amazing. How did it occur to you… You knew ‘pharisaical’ is a strong word and you put it in the first line. I may not have read so many poems, but ‘my pharisaical snail’ is probably the most intriguing opening line I’ve ever read. Very well done!

    1. It was the word I simply knew I am gonna use as an opening, it just came to me like that 😀 I am very glad you enjoyed reading the piece, because I think the whole prompt was fantastic.

  9. Stupendous! Incredible usage of the prompt words with such creative depth and insight. Reowr!

    1. Thank you very much, the words in the wordle were just such a fantastic and inspirational bunch.

  10. Fantastic poem…ah, to have your power of metaphor, I love reading your work and the photo too is so well chosen. You’re amazing!

    1. Thank you bastet! As someone who rarely says anything short and not enigmatic, I find great joy in hearing my metaphors are enjoyed!:D

      1. I do so admire your masterly way of using the metaphor, le’ts say it verges on envy. One thing I’ll never be able to do I’m afraid, just isn’t in me, but that means I can enjoy those of you who are good at it so much more!

  11. Lovely! Just like you! 😀

  12. Snails amaze me. They carry on about their life in such a beautiful pace, teaching us to slow down..

    1. Sometimes they are amazing, but sometimes I wish they had more colorfull shells and that I,walk slower:/

      1. Colourful shells… That would be amazing indeed.

your thoughts always give me pause…
    to think..to look up a word…and to learn …
(not always look up a word but this one I had too, I’m blaming it on a long day and I am drifting because I love the sound of the rain outside as I write tonight)
I love the photo….it reminded me of my very first book I had to have…
James and the Giant Peach, 2nd grade, many many years ago..I still have it….
see you have me collecting thoughts ….
Wonderful work of art here…as always…
    Take Care…you Matter…

    1. Thank you very much for sharing your recolections and inspired emotions and memories with me, it is one of the best things one can hear from another who reads their work!

  14. Tvoje pesme su tako pune bogatstva, velikih slika, ponegde me tvoj senzibilitet podseti na romantičnog i melanholičnog Šekspira. “Tomorrow,
he will spew thorns at me,
naming all tragedy to mere acts
of roses departing to give way to bronze
    and the pursuit
to tug the black robes of Death
    and ask him :“Gently.”
    will be solely
    mine.”
    Perfection.

    1. Hvala ti puno za ovako divan komentar, jako mi je drago da znam da ti se svidelo sta si procitala:D

About Me

I don’t mind the sun sometimes,
the images it shows,
I can taste you on my lips
and feel you in my clothes.
Cinnamon and sugary
and softly spoken lies,
you never know just how you look
through other people’s eyes
